Spectacle "The Emperor of the Colosseum"

On September, 14 2019 on a unique site – the medieval amphetheatre of Ancient Kyiv in the Principality of Kyivan Rus near Kyiv there will be the premiere of the play «The Emperor of the Colosseum» from the stage director of W.Shakespeare`s «Hamlet» and A. Pushkin`s «The Miserly Knight», the master of stage, the master of theatrical art – Andrienko Alexander. For the first time in the history of theatrical business the performance will be staged not on a simple background scenery, but in the real reconstructed medieval city – surrounded by architectural masterpieces listed in the Ukrainian Book of Records.
Plot:
The performance based on the original script, saturated with the spirit of Ancient Rome and the mood of antiquity, touches deep philosophical themes. The main characters of the staging are the characters of Shakespeare's play – the Roman Emperor Julius Caesar and the Egyptian Queen Cleopatra. Great personalities reveal to the audience the answers to eternal philosophical questions: «what is bread and circuses?», «what is slavery?» and «what is power?». The characters of the staging will share the thousand-year-old wisdom that will touch the soul and mind of even the most sophisticated viewer. Accompanied by live vocals, original songs and original musical compositions – from antiquity to modernity – the viewers are awaited by the unique staging «at the junction of genres», the format of which in Ukraine has never been embodied before.
For the first time in theatrical art there will be involved the unique collection of horses from all around the world. Spectators will see stunt tricks and the elements of circus, the possession of different weapon on a horseback, comedy performances with a donkey and horse training. For the first time in Ukraine snow-white heavy horses will be harnessed to a Roman chariot. Original dialogs and staged fights, fire special effects, smoke, pyrotechnics and a fire show and also the unique lighting which will not only create the unique atmosphere but will also emphasize the monumentality of the ancient city.
Every answer of the Emperor is accompanied by a cognitive story from the past – the colorful stories with a deep meaning from the life of Ancient Rome, which in theatrical scenes will bring the viewer closer to great truths. The difficult life situations which the heroes face will help us once again think about the life values.
The spectators are awaited by a completely new format of theatrical action with interactive immersion in the atmosphere of Antiquity. In the best traditions of modern stagings, you will walk along the imperial red carpet, will be met with bread and salt by colorful nymphs and priestesses, and then you will be treated with wine from the barrel of the god of winemaking - Dionysius himself.
Only during the Только во время постановки «The Emperor of the Colosseum» staging you will become not only the spectators but the participants of the action! There are roles for the spectators as well. Together with the main characters you will solve the theatrical conflict.
The actors and the director group:
- Stage director – Alexander Andrienko.
- Stylized costumes based on classical antiquity – from the designer Olga Vynnychenko.
- Live vocal – by Tatyana Kara, the winner of the all-Ukrainian and international vocal competitions.
- The tricks staging – from the world-class champion in horseback archery, the professional stuntman, the winner of the international stunt contests, who has played in more than 30 movies and TV projects – Vitaliy Gudym.
- The main character of the play – The Emperor of the Colosseum – Volodymyr Yanchenko, the ideologist and creator of the Ancient Kyiv in the Principality of Kyivan Rus project, the champion of the international horseback archery championships, the candidate of historical sciences.
- The Egyptian Queen – Nataliya Koval, the prizewinner of the all-Ukrainian dance competitions.
